The mother of a Bridgeport man who officials say was accidentally shot during an FBI drug raid says she has not been updated on her son?s condition since the incident Wednesday.
Police say 22-year-old Juan Hernandez was unintentionally shot in the thigh while being apprehended at 95 McKinney St. in Bridgeport. The FBI delivered search and arrest warrants to 36 suspects throughout southwestern Connecticut Wednesday who they believe to be connected to a crack, cocaine and heroin drug ring.
Hernandez?s mother, Luz Aviles, says she has tried to visit her son at St. Vincent?s Hospital and to contact the FBI for information, but they have not answered her questions. Aviles says, despite what her son may have done wrong, she should be able to see him while he?s injured.
According to Aviles, a nurse at St. Vincent?s told her Hernandez was also shot in the back. News 12 Connecticut went to St. Vincent?s Hospital and representatives there say Hernandez is not in their records.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney says an independent team will conduct an investigation into the shooting and that no more information will be released about Hernandez?s condition.
