Bridgeport official calls on young people to 'put down the guns' in wake of Saturday fatal shooting
A member of the Bridgeport City Council called on young people Sunday "to put down the guns!"
Jorge Cruz says he's "sickened" by the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Jonathan DaSilva outside a nightclub on Arctic Street early Saturday morning.
A makeshift memorial was created and people paid respects to the city's 15th homicide victim in 2021.
"The sad thing is that two lives are going to be lost. The person that lost their life - and when they get that guy that did the shooting, he's going to prison for the rest of his life. So as far as I'm concerned, all these guys that handle their business with guns are nothing but a bunch of punks - plain and simple," Cruz says.
The victim's family tells News 12 they're heartbroken by this "senseless tragedy."
