Bridgeport communities came together Friday to create one of western Connecticut's largest efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
The city came together after a conference call with Houston's mayor, who gave an update on the area's conditions and their immediate needs.
After the call, Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim teamed up with Bridgeport's police department, fire department, emergency operations center, the American Red Cross and the owner of Vazzy's restaurants to help.
John Vazzano, owner of Vazzy's, used his parking lot to fill up a truck with supplies that will head to Houston once the task is complete. Friday's drive lasted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
