Bridgeport's Planning and Zoning Commission has denied a proposal to open a controversial marijuana dispensary on the west side of the city, but approved plans for a dispensary across town.
The decisions were made following a public hearing Tuesday night.
The approved site is located at 1234 Huntington Turnpike near Vazzy's and Route 8.
The CEO of the company looking to sell marijuana there says he'll now have to apply for a license with the state.
The location of the marijuana dispensary that was voted down is at 15 Dewey St. near McDonald's on Fairfield Avenue.
Opponents of the proposed Dewey Street site said the building is located near a church and methadone clinic and doesn't belong in the neighborhood.
Those in favor said the dispensary would attract new businesses to Bridgeport.
