Bridgeport police said they responded to a homicide investigation on Olive Street Thursday afternoon.

Officials say they received a 911 report of the homicide around 1:30 p.m.

Bridgeport Police said the victim was 18 years old and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency Management director Scott Appleby said investigators are in the process of collecting evidence, which includes securing surveillance videos and talking with witnesses and family members.

A longtime friend of the victim who died spoke on behalf of the family.

"It's always heartbreaking to lose a young person. That is nothing I will ever take lightly, regardless of who it is because nobody deserves to lose their life," said Samaris Rose.

A neighbor, Eddie Devane, says he heard the shots as it happened.

"Then we heard the sirens coming and we knew something was happening," Devane said. "Our prayers go out to the family because the kid was so young and he had a bright future in front of him and it's sad, you know."

Authorities are asking for the public's help identifying a suspect.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Homicide Detective Jeffrey Holtz at 203-581-5293 or utilize the Bridgeport Police Tips Line at 203-576-TIPS.
