Bridgeport Police Chief Bryan Norwood will be leaving Connecticut to become the new police chief in the city of Richmond, Virginia.
The mayor of Richmond announced the appointment Wednesday, while police in Bridgeport say Norwood?s departure is a morale booster and they aren?t sad to see him go.
For the Bridgeport officers, Norwood?s new appointment has come during a time of uncertainty. Mayor Bill Finch recently announced the layoff of 10 officers, including two deputy chiefs.
?There's been a lot of contention between the officers and the chief on numerous issues,? says Frank Cuccaro, president of the Bridgeport Police Union.
Members of the police union also say they want the city to appoint someone within their own department as the new chief.
The mayor?s office says it hopes to announce the interim chief soon.
