The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry is warning customers about a fraudulent ticket website scam.
The company says it has received reports of a website selling fake ferry tickets and has alerted law enforcement.
Customers are urged to purchase tickets only through the ferry's official website or by calling 1-888-44-FERRY.
The company warns customers to be cautious of third-party websites and social media ads offering discounted ferry tickets.
It says anyone who believes they have been scammed should contact their bank or credit card company to dispute the charge and file a report with local law enforcement.
The ferry service also recommends reporting fraudulent websites to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and filing an internet crime complaint with the FBI at IC3.gov.
