Bridgeport's public school system is ditching "Columbus Day" in favor of "Indigenous Peoples Day."
The school board voted this week to change the name and to honor those who were in the Americas before Columbus arrived in 1492.
They say they want to highlight the history and contributions of Native American culture.
Cities across the U.S. have already made the change, including Portland, Oregon and St. Paul, Minnesota.
