A Bridgeport woman who says she is an undocumented immigrant is grateful for President Barack Obama's announcement on sweeping reforms.
Ana Rodriguez says she came to the United States from Uruguay in 2004. Like many undocumented immigrants, Rodriguez says she has a good job, pays her taxes and follows the law.
She and her husband were fearful of the possibility of being deported back to South America, along with their two sons. She now hopes to be able to stay in the U.S. following the president's executive action.
Millions of families who have at least one child born in the U.S. will have new rights, assuming they pay their taxes and do not break the law. Immigration expert Alex Meyerovich, who has helped Rodriguez and her family stay in the country, applauds Obama's decision.
Rodriguez says she and her husband will now apply for permission to stay in the U.S. legally, with the hope of one day becoming citizens.
