Bridgeport is aiming to recruit new 911 dispatchers.

Officials are scheduled to speak at Bridgeport public schools this week and encourage students to pursue careers in public safety.

911 first responders serve as "a calm voice in high-impact situations,” according to officials.

"It’s a very difficult job; however, it is very rewarding. Every day these folks are answering calls, making differences in people's lives," says Stephen Mastroianni, Deputy Director of Bridgeport Emergency Communications.

Mastroianni hopes more children will consider life-saving careers in emergency communications.
