Fans knew something was up when the hints and Easter eggs
started dropping on Bridgeport's social media – and on Monday, some of those
rumors proved to be true.
The Sound Tigers are being rebranded as the Bridgeport
Islanders.
With the team's 20th anniversary right around the corner and
the New York Islanders' new home, UBS Arena, opening up this fall, team
officials say it was the right time to launch a new logo.
President of Business Operations Brent Rossi says the change
has been met with both positive and negative feedback, but the move's mission
is to solidify the direct connection with their NHL affiliate.
“We love this city, we love playing here, it's a city that
we have deep roots in,” says Rossi. “We're not turning our back on the Sound
Tigers name, this is just how we move forward in 2021-2022."
