A soup kitchen in Bridgeport is remembering a volunteer who was killed in a car crash over the weekend.
Police say 39-year-old James Paules, of Shelton, was traveling southbound on Route 8 near Hawley Lane on Oct. 7 when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed over the median and hit another car.
Authorities still do not know why he lost control of his vehicle.
Paules was a volunteer at the Thomas Merton Center soup kitchen. The kitchen says it serves 85,000 meals a year to people in need.
The director of the program says Paules was once receiving meals from the kitchen. He then transitioned into a volunteer to give back to those who provided for him.
Paules funeral is scheduled to be held Friday.
