Veterans were honored on the East End of Bridgeport Saturday for their service to the country.
The English Chapel Cathedral of Miracles held its annual Veterans Appreciation Service.
Organizers said some of the city's greatest heroes have served their country without ever being recognized.
One church member honored his son for his decades of service.
"He's been in Iraq, he's been in Afghanistan, and he is still in the army. He has been there 25 years, and he was born here in this church," said Deacon John Void.
"We recognize our veterans because they go off to war and danger, and keep the U.S. safe, and we appreciate them for doing that," said Deacon Willie Wilson.
Organizers said the annual event, which started in 2006, commemorates Bridgeport veterans who gave their lives without seeking, or receiving, credit for their service.
