Local and religious leaders hosted Bridgeport residents of all faiths Tuesday for a vigil to show solidarity with local Muslims who may be facing discrimination.

They all took part in an interfaith prayer vigil outside the Margaret E. Morton Government Center.

Organizers say they gathered to share a message of peace and solidarity at a time when Muslims are encountering heightened discrimination in the wake of terror attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, California.

"The differences, and we certainly respect those differences, should never be an occasion for us to be at odds with one another or disrespect each other," says Bishop Frank Caggiano.

Despite heavy rain, enthusiastic organizers say participants stayed at the vigil until its end.

"It is a great opportunity to show the world that we are one, we have one creator, we have one humanity," says Imam Musa Abdul Ali of the Al-Aziz Islamic Center.
