The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Brooklyn until 5:30 p.m.
Expect 1 to 2 inches of rain on the roads. Periods of heavy rainfall may cause widespread flooding in poor drainage and low-lying areas.
Residents are urged not to walk or drive in areas and roadways covered by water as the depth may be too great to allow a safe crossing.
- A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level expected in the most vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. A Coastal Flood Statement is in effect through this afternoon in the Bronx. Up to half a foot inundation above ground level expected in the most vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
- Rounds of moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds will impact the city through this evening. Localized flooding, large ponding on the roads and wind damage is expected.
- It's a slow start to the day with pockets of steady rain and breezy conditions. Wake-up temperatures are in the low-50s.
- We catch brief breaks during the midday before one more pulse of heavy rain and strong gusts moves in after 3 p.m. through the evening commute. Rain moves out around 10 p.m.
- 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is expected through tonight with locally higher amounts with any downpours. Poor visibility, slippery travel and isolated flooding will impact the evening commute. Gusts 35 - 45 mph+ will cause isolated power outages and tree damage across the city. The storm pulls away overnight, but gusty winds stick around through the weekend.
- Despite the drier weather on Halloween, gusts can reach up to 40 mph with isolated gusts up to 50 mph throughout the day. Chilly temperatures in the 50s and gusty winds could make trick or treating unpleasant and even hazardous with broken tree limbs and scattered Halloween decorations possible. Temperatures will be in the 50s with breezy conditions on Saturday.
- We're switching the clocks back an hour Saturday night. Daylight saving time ends on Nov. 2 at 2 a.m. The sunrise on Sunday will be 6:26 a.m. and the sunset will be 4:50 p.m. The weather looks great on Sunday for the NYC Marathon. The winds subside and the sun will shine bright.
