Officials broke ground Tuesday at the future Bronx site of the Eagle Academy for Young Men.
The New York chapter of 100 Black Men is behind the $42 million building, which will house 567 students from sixth to 12th grade.
The organization opened the school three years ago in the building of the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice.
The new school, located at 4143 Third Ave., will continue to cater to black and Hispanic boys. Officials say the goal is to shape future leaders.
Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión Jr. and other officials were on hand for the groundbreaking of the public school.
Construction is expected to be complete by the 2009-2010 school year.
