Brookfield is among the western Connecticut communities that are applying for federal disaster aid after being
devastated by violent storms last month.
Town officials and Gov. Dannel Malloy have declared a state of emergency in Brookfield, where First Selectman Steve Dunn says recovery efforts are expected to cost millions of dollars.
To qualify for disaster relief, Brookfield will need to convince President Donald Trump to declare the town a disaster area. The town is calling on residents to supply reports and pictures of the damage to their homes for the town's application for FEMA aid.
Brookfield residents can find that damage report form on the town
website.
The town was set to vote Wednesday on whether to spend another $1.2 million on the recovery effort. Dunn says he thinks that's only a fraction of what it will cost to make Brookfield whole again.
