A bunny was found abandoned outside a veterinary clinic in Kensington Tuesday morning and is now safe in a foster home.
Dr. Elizabeth Coletti, PAWSitive Veterinary of New York, says staff discovered the bunny on a bench outside the clinic. She says whoever deserted the rabbit left it with food, water and a bag of hay.
Coletti says the clinic wasn’t able to conduct a full physical examination because bunnies are at risk of suffering gastrointestinal stasis, a medical emergency triggered by stress, where their digestive system slows or stops functioning.
Coletti says the bunny will be named Alice or Chester, depending on its sex.
Mary Beth Purdy Artz, an animal advocate and rescuer, connected Colletti with Terry Chao, who specializes in rescuing and rehabilitating bunnies. Chao picked up the rabbit from the clinic Tuesday afternoon and quickly found a foster home.
News 12 spoke with Chao in August after she and two friends rescued three rabbits abandoned in Prospect Park. Chao said these bunnies were used as props in a photoshoot linked to Anna Delvey, a convicted fake heiress known for scamming New York’s elite.
Colletti says she was glad this bunny was abandoned at a clinic, instead of being set free in a park where it would face imminent danger.
