Bushwick High School has reopened its pool for the first time in years and is offering students classes to learn how to swim and become a lifeguard.
Students say swimming pools in the area are limited, so the new one at the school has become a safe haven for those looking to learn or master swimming as a sport.
The school's first swim meet was held on Tuesday.
Physical education teachers say the pool has paved the path for more students to become lifeguards.
