Police are warning business owners in Fairfield to be on the lookout for credit card scammers who they say have stolen thousands of dollars from local stores.
The owner of the Red Mango on Black Rock Turnpike says he was targeted by the scammers on three separate occasions in recent months.
Sim Lamba says that in the first incident, a woman bought $2,000 worth of gift cards with a stolen American Express card, which police confirmed. A month later, a woman used a counterfeit $100 bill, and a man also used another fake $100 bill a short time later.
Police say that all three scammers were likely part of the same ring, and Lamba should have been suspicious of the first scammer who cheated him.
Lamba says he will not let dishonest people ruin his hard work. He has since beefed up his security.
