Bridgeport century-old venue, The Bijou Theatre, now hosts Candlelight Concerts by Fever, a series that pairs classical and modern hits with the warm glow of thousands of flickering candles.
Louis Zayas, owner of the Bijou, said the theater is transformed when the lights go down and the candles come up.
“Some of them will do Adele, but it’s magnificent, or Queen,” Zayas says.
String quartets perform the live concerts with violins and cellos while candles line the aisles.
“There’s over 3,000 candles in here… all the aisles,” Zayas says. “They flicker, they come in all different sizes and they just look amazing.”
The Bijou, which was built in 1909,is not just a temporary host for Candlelight Concerts. The theater also presents other events.
“People get to see Bridgeport in such a totally different light,” Zayas says. “I’m a Bridgeport kid, born and raised, so to do this in my hometown is such a gift.”
