Catholic people in Brooklyn are mourning the death of Pope Francis at age 88.
The Vatican announced his death early Monday morning.
"We're convinced that even though Pope Francis has passed over from this life to the next, he still lives," said Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York. "Even though we have rock solid confidence in the mercy of Jesus, we never take it for granted. So we ask mercy upon his noble eternal soul."
Cardinal Dolan says a Mass will be held in honor of Pope Francis on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 12 p.m. in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.
The Archdiocese of New York says Pope Francis will be lying in state starting Wednesday, April 23.
His funeral will most likely be Monday, April 28, and the first day of Papal Conclave will start around May 5.
