Darien police say a group of masked suspects robbed David Harvey Jewelers early Wednesday morning.

Police say it happened around 4:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers found the front door smashed and jewelry scattered on the sidewalk.

Once inside, police found numerous display cases also smashed and jewelry strewn across the floor.

Video surveillance shows four suspects wearing masks and gloves. They forcibly entered the premises with a sledgehammer and garbage can before ransacking the store.

Residents told News 12 that they are stunned by the incident.

"David Harvey's a treasure, and I was devastated to see that something like this is actually happening in downtown Darien," says Doris Bobik.

Police say their investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Darien detective division at 203-662-5330.
