The family behind a beloved but now defunct minor league hockey team is hoping to return to the ice in Danbury this spring.
From 2004 to 2006, which is when owner James Galante was arrested on racketeering and other charges, the Danbury Trashers were the bad boys of the United Hockey League.
A.J. Galante was president of the Trashers at age 17. Now, he's president of Ice Wars - a promotion that hopes to provide hockey fights without the hockey.
After the Trashers folded, Galante opened Champs Boxing Club in Danbury. He says this new venture brings both of his passions together.
Fighters will be judged on one-minute rounds in full pads and skates.
Ice Wars International is still searching for venues for its first event. Galante says he's aiming for an April or May debut.
He's hoping Ice Wars can bring back the entertainment value he says he's been missing in professional sports.
