This week, cooking instructor Nina Fattahi from Super Delicious with Nina, shows Tina Redwine how to make sausage stuffing baked apples.
Sausage stuffing baked apples
Ingredients:
12 small apples or 6 large apples
8oz sausage (any variety fine)
1/2 cup of finely chopped onions
1/2 cup of chopped celery
Box of stuffing
2 cups of chicken/turkey stock
salt to taste
Method:
Partially core each apple and use a spoon to dig a hole into the apple to make room to add stuffing inside.
Over medium heat saute onions with olive oil until translucent. Once cooked, add sausage meat and break apart while cooking. While cooking, add celery and mix until they are softened and then add the box of stuffing and herbs (some boxed stuffings are already mixed in with herbs while others have the herbs in another bag). After you thoroughly mix it all together, add the stock and cook on low for a few minutes and mix to coat the stuffing with the stock.
Fill each apple with stuffing and put it in a casserole dish, add 1/2 inch of water and bake in the oven for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
