Authorities said it happened on Madison Avenue and Salem Street around 4:30 p.m.
The driver remained on scene.
Police said the child was in critical but stable condition as of Sunday night at St. Vincent's Hospital.
The circumstances that led to the crash of the child's age were not immediately known.
