Chinese American WWII veteran in Wilton receives Congressional Gold Medal

A Chinese American World War II veteran received a much-deserved honor.
Chuck Eng, 96 – a longtime resident at the Wilton Meadows Rehabilitation and Health Care Center – was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal by the Chinese American Citizens Alliance.
The organization lobbied Congress to recognize Chinese Americans who served in World War II. Eng served as a private first class in the Army’s 5th Calvary regiment under Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
An estimated 20,000 Chinese Americans served during World War II.
