A
Chinese American World War II veteran received a much-deserved honor.
Chuck
Eng, 96 – a longtime resident at the Wilton Meadows Rehabilitation and
Health Care Center – was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal by the
Chinese American Citizens Alliance.
The
organization lobbied Congress to recognize Chinese Americans who served in
World War II. Eng served as a private first class in the Army’s 5th Calvary
regiment under Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
An
estimated 20,000 Chinese Americans served during World War II.
