The Chinese Language School of Connecticut hosted a celebration Sunday for the Chinese New Year, which officially begins Monday.
According to the school, this year ushers in the year of the ox, which is destined to be a period of growth. Celebrators say the ox is strong and steadfast and sets an example for behaviors throughout the year.
Many families were in attendance at the celebration and said that even the round tables and types of food served symbolized important messages in Chinese culture. According to one partygoer, the round table represents completion in the family.
Some Connecticut residents who attended the celebration say their interest in Chinese culture was piqued by the summer Olympics in Beijing.
