Murphy will meet with gun safety advocates at 11 a.m. to discuss the re-introduction of The Background Check Expansion Act. The act aims to expand federal background checks to all gun sales.
Over 90% of Americans are in favor of comprehensive background checks. Under the current laws, unlicensed and private sellers are not required to conduct background checks.
Research estimates there are no background checks done on nearly a quarter of all gun sales in the United States.
