Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent for Christians around the world.
Some churches offered ashes at local train stations this morning for commuters who want to observe the day.
Many have ashes marked on their foreheads symbolizing Lent as a time of penance and reflection.
Lent lasts for 40 days and ends with the holy day of Easter.
