City sues Bronx towing company for upcharging customers

The mayor’s office announced the city filed a lawsuit against the Bronx towing company “Instant Recovery Corp” and an employee named Jake Rios.
The lawsuit, brought forward the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, alleges the company substantially upcharged customers.
The 28-page document said in the 445 records the company provided the city, $33,850 worth of upcharges were calculated.
The city said it is now seeking restitution for the people who were ripped off.
“We really do want to send the message to this industry that we will not tolerate preying on people in really low moments when they're getting their car,” said DCWP Commissioner Sam Levine.
News 12 called the towing company for comment.
A receptionist, wishing to remain an anonymous, picked up the phone and said, “We are licensed by the DCA. We have the million dollar policy that the city requires. These guys don't have nothing. What about those companies that the city cannot go after? Are we getting the fire for that?”
News 12 asked to speak with Rios, he was not present.
