Flags have been lowered in Clarkstown following the death of a local resident who was serving on active duty in Kuwait.
Major Sorffly Davius was an NYPD officer and U.S. Army National Guard Major. Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann ordered all town flags to half‑staff until the day of interment.
The town says the Clarkstown community is mourning the loss and stands ready to support his family, friends, and colleagues. Officials say further details will be released when available.
Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a statement Saturday saying the state mourns the loss of Major Davius, who died on March 6 at Camp Buehring in Kuwait while serving his country. She called him the "Citizen Soldier" in every sense and noted his service as an NYPD officer and decorated Army veteran. The governor said she shared condolences with his wife and will keep his family and colleagues in her thoughts.
The New York National Guard says this was not a combat death.
