First graders at Columbus Magnet School in Norwalk participated in the school's annual produce market event.

Students stocked the hallways with produce and invited their patents, classmates and friends to visit and do their weekly produce shopping.

Educators say the students get to pick the name of the market each year, and that this year's name is the 'Happy Harvest Market.'

 

Proceeds for the weeklong event will go right back to the wholesaler and any profits made will go toward a local charity or toward whatever the students may need, organizers say.

Educators say the program gives students an opportunity to study the farming industry and to learn how fruits and vegetables grow, how they're harvested and how they eventually make their way to the table.
