Police commissioners in East Haven are urging the town's mayor to fire its police chief instead of letting him retire amid allegations that his officers abused Hispanics.
The commissioners voted unanimously to fire Chief Leonard Gallo.
They say he failed to investigate the misconduct or provide leadership.
By retiring, Gallo would be able to collect almost $150,000 in severance money.
