Hundreds came together to remembered a young life lost with a balloon release at Vailsburg Park in Newark on Tuesday - three days after a shooting killed two and injured three more.

Jordan Garcia’s family remembered the 10-year-old as a happy boy who loved football. He and 21-year-old Kia Mae Scott were killed Saturday night. Garcia’s 11-year-old brother was one of the three others injured.

"He was supposed to go further in life,” said Akeem Vereen, the boy’s father. “Not end it the way it ended."

The football field at Vailsburg Park served as a reminder of a future cut short.

"If football was going to be his life, I'm pretty sure he would have made it,” said Taisha Garcia, the boy’s aunt.

"That boy got his jersey the first time, and he never took it off,” said Stephanie Garcia, the boy’s mother.

Stephanie Garcia said her 11-year-old son that was injured in the shooting was at Tuesday’s balloon release for his younger brother. The shooters remain on the loose.

A law enforcement source tells News 12 that police recovered a car Monday night that was involved in the shooting. The source said two people were arrested after that chase, but not for involvement in the shooting. Police also recovered two weapons from the car.

"Until today, and until justice is served, you don't have a feeling,” said Taisha Garcia.

"I don't have any words for them,” said Stephanie Garcia. “They don't deserve any emotion from me, any words from me. Only they can judge themselves. They know what they did."

There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to arrests.
