Those affected by the fire at a Bridgeport complex say they're spending the first day of the New Year trying to get their lives back in order.
More than 100 people are safe after an early morning fire Thursday blasted through a condo complex on Charles Street.
Resident Sai Abhishek says he woke up to a noise in his condo, but thought it was a burglar, and locked his bedroom door. Next thing he knew, he was overtaken by a cloud of smoke.
The 23-year-old says he blindly found his window, while on the phone with 911.
Ahbishek moved to Brideport a year ago from India to get his masters degree in technology management from the University of Bridgeport.
Abhishek has been put in touch with both the American Red Cross and the city to help get him back on his feet. As for the building, city officials say the rear portion was torn down Thursday night and the rest will come down Monday.
Fire marshals are continuing their investigation into what caused of the fire.
