A new video just released by state Republicans attacks Gov. Ned Lamont on affordability here in Connecticut and says all he cares about is pizza.
Gov. Ned Lamont is running for a third term this year.
His Republican challengers right now are Ryan Fazio and Erin Stewart.
The video is how state Republicans are launching their campaign hoping to get back to the governor's mansion for the first time in 15 years.
In the video Lamont says, "What can we do to hold down cost. We now declare New Haven the pizza capital of America."
Ben Proto, chair of the Connecticut Republican party released the video on Monday in Middletown.
He says, "We call it our pizza ad because Ned Lamont has lost sight of what's important in Connecticut."
"When we declare Connecticut to be the pizza capital of the world, in fact we should be declaring Connecticut to be one of the most expensive states in the world, having the highest property taxes in the world, and some of the highest electric rates in the world, at least in the United States," said Proto.
The governors press office released a statement from Democratic State Senator Matt Lesser calling Proto's news conference a "stunning display" and "incredibly out of touch at a time when the country is reeling from tariffs, from Donald Trump and Republicans in Washington" as health insurance costs for millions of people are set to increase dramatically.
Lesser, who was the designated Democratic responder to Proto, said tens of thousands of state residents will see health care costs triple because of Trump and Republicans in Washington.
Lesser said Lamont and the Democratic Party are focused on affordability.
