Gov. Ned Lamont visited the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford Thursday to celebrate a "normal" summer ahead for children.
Another camp, Sound Waters in Stamford, decided last minute it would open last year with a limited capacity and had trouble filling spots. This year, the camp has been sold out since April and employees are ready to get kids back for a more normal camp experience
Christina Genz, of Sound Waters, says they did all they could to offer summer camp at Cove Island Park in 2020. This year, they will be able to ditch the temperature checks and let in a few more campers who will learn about Long Island Sound.
Lamont said during his camp visit that the state has signed on 200 camps to offer free or reduced prices for the kids who need it the most this summer. The state has allocated $11 million from the federal American Rescue Plan funds for summer enrichment.
Sound Waters staff will also bring learning activities to summer programs being at local schools.
