A construction project is expected to begin Monday on Villa Avenue in Fairfield.
Police say work is being done on a gas main. Construction will begin at Villa and Brooklawn avenues near the Fairfield-Bridgeport line and move westbound toward Tunxis Hill Road.
Police say the work will take three to four weeks to complete. Crews will cover 100 to 300 feet a day. Road closures and detours will be in place.
Detour #1
Villa Avenue will initially be closed to eastbound traffic at Melville Avenue. Drivers will be directed to Melville Avenue and then to Cornell Road to access Stratfield Road/Brooklawn Avenue.
Detour #2
Once construction crews reach Villa Avenue west of Melville Avenue, the detour will change. Villa Avenue will then be closed to westbound traffic. Drivers will be detoured up Melville Avenue to Old Stratfield Road to access Tunxis Hill Road/Cutoff.
Road construction plates will cover the road at the end of each day to allow traffic to flow in both directions. But there may be a need to entirely close certain parts of the road for one or two days.
Impacted Villa Avenue residents should receive door tags before the work begins. Police will also be on hand at each road closure to help with traffic flow. Residents are encouraged to use an alternate route.
