A four-month sting operation has landed more than 100 home-improvement contractors in hot water. As part of what police dubbed Operation Spring Sting, contractors were lured to a home in Ridgefield where they were asked to bid on projects. Ten of those contractors offered up contracts without the proper language and the other 150 were unregistered. Police say the worst offender caught on tape was Steel River Home Maintenance, a New York-based company. According to police, those contractors preyed on many, including an 89-year-old woman from Fairfield. ?Not only did they charge her astronomical amounts of money, but most of the work they didn't even do,? Fairfield Police Detective Jason Tacaz said. Officials from the Department of Consumer Protection urge anyone with questions or complaints to call 860-713-6110.
