Southwestern Connecticut police officers used their expertise to teach local women how to fend off a would-be attacker. A dozen women went to Fairfield's Nazuka Dojo to learn how to take a stand Sunday. The three officers who taught the self-defense class say in a dangerous situation, adrenaline rises and motor skills change, making practicing your self-defense even more important. ?No? is the one word Norwalk Police Officer Sofia Morawski says can help women defend themselves against an attacker. Morawski says if an encounter arises, ?It's very important when you do react to a situation where you have to fight, you do it early and you do it right away.? Morawski adds, ?Ninety-nine percent of the time if the women learn how to establish their boundaries and say no means no then they'll probably never have to deal with that one percent of the time where they actually have to deal with the physical confrontation.? Jackie Kwiatkowski, of Middletown says, ?I came today because it's a great tool to be able to have at any time. You never know when you need it.?
