Testimony began Tuesday in the trial of former Bridgeport state Sen. Ernie Newton.
As previously reported, Newton is accused of submitting fake documentation in order to qualify for $80,000 in public financing during his failed 2012 re-election bid.
Newton pleaded not guilty to charges that include first-degree larceny.
The former senator was convicted of extortion and campaign finance felonies in 2005.
