I'm Kirk Sieglin. We have some breaking news tonight here on News 12. There's a massive fire in Roselle Park this evening. A residents being asked to avoid the area on the west end of town. News 12 New Jersey's Adriana Daniel is there tonight. Uh, Adriana, you spoke with both witnesses and the mayor, right? Yes, Kurt, we, we talked to the mayor and witnesses today who multiple people told us there were multiple explosions going on. We're here on West Valley Road, Valley Road, excuse me, off of West Westfield Avenue, Roselle Park. This is a 5 alarm active fire at the Crossfield Products Corporation. Like you said, we spoke to the mayor. Joseph Signorello Junior, they told us they are receiving help right now from Roselle, Cranford, Westfield, Lyndon, Union County, and much more, all to help fight this fire that he's defined as active and ongoing. He says that this business has been in the area for about 50 to 60 years and that. 50% of the fire is still going on and not under control. He expects this to continue going on for at least a couple more hours into the night. He, when we first met with him, he explained to us that there was black smoke coming out from the building when the fire first began and the explosion of what was most likely as he defied propane tanks and much more. If you take a look at your video, your screen right now, we have video from the fire earlier this evening. That flame robust, taking up red hot red flames, and we're told that this is a flooring company and that they make resin for the floors. We're also told that a transformer blew blew in the area, so many of these houses right now are without power at this time as well. And if you take a listen to this sound right now, this is what a man said earlier this evening about the explosion. It started off small and literally within a matter of minutes. You just start seeing like flames shoot up out of the roof and I was talking to another couple and in the midst of the conversation we were about 2 or 3 loud explosions and then that's when I, you know, I, it was time to go at that point. 50% of the building is still on fire. It's not under control yet or not probably hold. There was a fire door holding back the fire, going to the other side of the building. And through efforts for mutual aid in Roosevelt Park, we're going to try to stop the fire and continue to extinguish it. Now we're also told that they were concerned about the air quality, but last I spoke with the mayor, he says there isn't much to worry about, but they were also worried about potential homes catching on fire in the area. He said 4 to 5 homes were evacuated earlier and that they were investigating to make sure there was no risk of any other buildings catching on fire today. Uh, this again can take a couple more hours, and Roselle Park PD will be putting out alerts for the rest of the night, so keep up with that. And as we go through the rest of the night, they do say that to that to keep your windows closed to make sure that you are not risking inhaling any of the smoke. As we're standing out here right now, I can smell just the smolder of the smoke coming up. You can even kind of taste it. In your mouth, it's that thick, it's that robust right now. And as we were speaking with people this evening, they explained to us that it was a little nerve-wracking. One man told us his son is currently hiding under the covers. He's an 11-year-old boy. Hearing multiple explosions can be hard on the soul at that age, but hopefully throughout the rest of the night they're able to keep this contained. The mayor also told us that there wasn't anyone in the building to their knowledge at the time. Of the fire. So hopefully everyone is safe this evening and that they're able to get this fire under control in the near future. Very difficult conditions for fire crews as they're dealing with these elements.

News 12 tonight. I'm Kirk Sieglin. We have an update from Roselle Park right now, where crews are battling a large fire, have been all evening. Some homes evacuated, other residents being asked to stay home if they can. Let's get you right out to News 12 New Jersey's Adriana Daniel at that scene, Adriana. Kurt, crews have been here on Valley Road for hours trying to take down the flames at a building fire, but behind us. If you take a look at the scene right now here at 10 o'clock at night, it looks very different than it did hours earlier. We have a lot less hoses going around this area and a lot less fire trucks and EMS material coming around, but they're still working on clearing out this fire. There's still a light lingering smell of smoke and sulfur in the air in comparison to earlier where it was pungent. Take a look at this this drone video of the fire earlier this evening. You can see that the thick black smoke is coming up from the building as firefighters try to take down the red hot flame. People we spoke to told us the fire just kept getting larger and larger, and as we were on scene in the hours. After the fire, you could follow the smoke like a chimney leading us to the building. Roselle Park Mayor Joseph Signorello Jr. told us crews were dispatched around 4:45. No one was injured, but when we last spoke to him around 8:00 p.m., he informed us the fire was, was not under control, and 50% of the building was still on fire, but there is a fire door holding back some of the fire. A lot of black smoke. There was a lot of explosions in the beginning. It could have been propane tanks, resins. They're a flooring company, oils, all above, but we made sure everybody was safe. We did a perimeter to make sure there was no the walls don't collapse again. Everybody goes home, be safe. The building is in a residential neighborhood and Singerello tells me that a few houses were evacuated out of precaution. They wanted to ensure none of the other buildings would catch on fire as embers were floating around the air. One homeowner telling us his tenants were part of the group evacuated. They called him right away to say that strange smell was in the air, and soon after that, fire erupted. I'm more worried about my tenants' safety more than anything else. I mean, obviously it's a chemical building. I don't want anybody to go away and God forbid something happens later. The house is replaceable. I have insurance. I don't care about the house. I'm worried about my tenants, so they're safe, they're good, and you know it is what it is. It started out small and literally within a matter of minutes. You just start seeing like flames shoot up out of the roof and I was talking to another couple and in the midst of the conversation we're about 2 or 3 loud explosions and then that's when I, you know, I, it was time to go at that point. As Ray and I were speaking earlier, the street lights actually went out and the power was knocked out in the area. While speaking to the mayor, he told me the fire actually led to the transformer blowing and removing power from most of the area. He then went out to go check on his son at home, and he, when we caught up with Ray again later this evening, he told me that his son was hiding under the covers.
