Department of Public Works crews in Milford are clearing streets and sidewalks of lingering snow to make room for spectators at the annual St. Patrick's Day parade.
About 20,000 people are expected to attend the event, which is the second largest in Connecticut.
A number of residents say the parade is a highlight of the year for them, and they hope the city is able to remove the mounds of snow.
Department head Chris Saley says his crews are working all hours to clean an additional 5 feet of snow off the sidewalks.
Officials say they are concerned about the heavy rainfall anticipated for Saturday. They say a decision will be made Friday on whether the parade will be postponed.
