Crush it Colton: Fairfield family raising money for pediatric cancer research
Colton Johnston, 11, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer six years ago.
While pediatric cancer rates continue to rise, only 4% of government cancer research funding goes toward children.
A Fairfield family is seeking to change that.
Colton Johnston, 11, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer six years ago.
"We lived in the hospital for five months up at Dana Farber at Boston's Children's," said his mother, Tara Johnson.
He beat the disease, but soon after, Colton was diagnosed with severe combined immune deficiency, a condition requiring a bone marrow transplant.
"We feel so honored and blessed that this person we still don't know was willing to go through this very, very aggressive process to donate their bone marrow to Colton," says Tara Johnston.
This Saturday, on the one-year anniversary of his bone marrow transplant, the Johnston family will host a fundraiser.
