U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) squared off against his Democratic challenger, Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont, in a debate in Hartford Thursday.
Lamont argued that Lieberman is out of touch with Democrats and willing to undermine their issues. Lamont said American troops should be pulled out of Iraq. Lieberman countered that having troops leave war-torn Iraq and Afghanistan would embolden terrorists. The three-term incumbent said he doubts Lamont?s ability to represent the people of Connecticut and says he will run as an Independent if he loses in the primary. Millionaire Lamont says he is willing to pay an additional $1 million to further his campaign.
The primary is August 8.
