Connecticut’s United States senators joined other Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday to voice their concerns over Elon Musk's access to the U.S. Treasury Department.
Sen. Chris Murphy and Sen. Richard Blumenthal were among those protesting against Musk outside of the U.S. Treasury Department building in Washington, D.C.
"Every American's information is at risk, your privacy, your security, every one of you," Blumenthal said. "What is Elon Musk going to do with that information? What does Elon Musk do with anything he touches? He makes money, he's going to make money from that private information, not only himself but his billionaire friends."
The lawmakers called Musk's access to Treasury payment systems an "illegal takeover" and "an exploitative power grab of the federal government."
"When we open up the Senate every single morning we don't pledge allegiance to the billionaires, we don't pledge allegiance to Elon Musk, we don't pledge allegiance to the creepy 22-year-old working for Elon Musk. We pledge allegiance to the United States of America," said Murphy.
The Alliance for Retired Americans, along with two unions, filed a lawsuit on Monday to stop Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency team from accessing the U.S. Treasury Department's payment system.
