The Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) tentatively approved a 44.7 percent rate hike for all United Illuminating (UI) residential customers Friday. Senator Bill Finch (D-Bridgeport) says a public hearing on possible energy legislation has been scheduled for December 20. Finch, however, says there isn't much that can be done to help alleviate the increase. The DPUC has agreed to let UI phase in the rate increase. UI residential customers can expect a 25 percent increase in their bills starting January 1. The DPUC won't make a final decision on the rate hike until December 19.Related Information UI looks to soften blow of rate hike in southwestern CT
