Connecticut lawmakers are mulling a plan that would legalize online gambling in the state, broaching the issue during a hearing in Hartford earlier today. The state's public safety committee is considering the plan now that the U.S. Justice Department has said in-state Internet gambling does not violate federal law. State officials are admittedly conflicted on the topic. Gov. Dannel Malloy says 11 states are thinking about the measure, and that Connecticut needs to keep pace. Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-28th District) says Malloy has a flawed interpretation of the law. Connecticut casino officials say they are prepared to introduce online gambling if given the opportunity. They say they are not advocating the move, but want to have provisions in place.
