Local and national politicians continue to weigh in on President Joe Biden’s decision to step aside and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris.
Rep. Jim Himes was one of the first Democrats to call for President Biden to end his reelection campaign. He endorsed the vice president on Sunday – along with many other of the state’s top Democrats.
Rep. Himes and Rep. Robin Kelly from Illinois were together in Darien Monday morning and gave some insight about what we might expect going forward.
"I think in all likelihood Vice President Harris will be our nominee and she's going to galvanize young people and women in a way that we haven't seen in a very long time," said Himes.
"There's going to be a vote on Aug. 7, a virtual vote, and then we'll go from there – but she has many of the delegates already. A lot of the states got together last night," said Kelly.
Kelly says Harris already has the delegate votes from Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, North and South Carolina, and New Hampshire. Connecticut is about to award its delegates Monday night.
Harris needs 1986 delegate votes to be nominated. She has over 500 so far.
